Ambulatory Surgery

This private and separate unit is designed for patients requiring a less than one-day stay for surgical procedures. Patients recover in our post anesthesia area or are brought back to the Unit immediately after surgery. Private parking is provided for your convenience.

Center for Sleep Medicine

The Center for Sleep Medicine will diagnose and recommend appropriate treatments to address all symptoms of sleep disorder, and the Center has recently expanded to six overnight sleep study suites. Your sleep test can be scheduled quickly without waiting. Our hotel-like suites are equipped with queensized beds, private baths, flat screen TVs, and sophisticated monitoring equipment.

  • Pulmonary physicians are Board Certified and recognized as experts in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.
  • Certified Technicians monitor your sleep cycle during an overnight sleep study test
  • The Center offers the latest technology, and highly trained specialists in the field of sleep medicine in a comfortable, contemporary setting.

Endoscopy Unit

Our private outpatient unit provides both an upper endoscopy that visualizes the upper digestive tract and a colonoscopy that examines the large intestine.

Emergency Department

The Emergency Department is designed, staffed and equipped to evaluate and treat all types of adult and pediatric patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A registered nurse assesses all patients entering the Emergency Department. This triage nurse will ask pertinent questions regarding medical history and present illness. Patients with emergent conditions are seen immediately. Other patients will be assigned to specialized areas of the ED depending on their needs.

Hyperbaric & Wound Healing Center

Our Center provides comprehensive wound care services for the treatment of chronic, non-healing and/or poorly healing wounds. These services are delivered by physicians and staff specializing in advanced wound healing and Hyperbaric Medicine. Our highly specialized team of medical physicians, nurses, and technicians work cohesively to attain outcomes with a 90% success rate, far higher than the national industry average. Inpatient Services

Critical Care Unit

This unit provides a high level of specialized care for patients whose conditions merit closer than normal attention and supervision. This unit is staffed by specially trained nurses and is equipped with advanced monitoring technology.

These units are staffed with Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants and clerical staff to provide care to patients admitted for medical problems or surgical procedures.

This unit provides care for patients who do not require critical care but do require cardiac monitoring and close nursing supervision.

Physical Therapy & Balance Center

The Balance Center provides Balance Testing (VNG) as well as an individualized program of balance therapies, including Vestibular and Foot Physical Therapy. The Center diagnoses and treats patients suffering from dizziness, vertigo, BPPV, imbalance, gait instability and a history of falling. We also provide treatment of foot disorders including plantar fasciitis, foot pain, Achilles tendonitis and ankle sprain. Speech / Language Pathology Services

St Joseph’s Center for Speech, Swallowing, and Voice Disorders offers comprehensive evaluations and treatment for infants, children and adults with various communication and swallowing difficulties. Our speech pathologists are highly skilled and specially trained to assess, diagnose, and treat various communication and swallowing disorders using state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.

Swallowing, speech, language, voice, and cognitive disorders can result from a variety of conditions/diseases.   Our team of licensed and certified professionals provides services for people with neurological disorders, developmental delays, cranial facial abnormalities, autism, respiratory disorders, Parkinson’s disease, CVA (stroke), head trauma, head/neck cancers, ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), MS (Multiple Sclerosis), laryngectomy, reflux, and tracheotomy.

Our speech language pathologists work in partnership with each patient’s physician, to provide the most comprehensive treatment of each person’s communicative and/or swallowing disorder.  The speech and swallowing center at St. Joseph is one of the only few on Long Island that offers the latest and most comprehensive evaluation and treatment equipment and techniques such as:

Vital-Stim Swallowing therapy is a non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy cleared by the food and drug administration for the safe and effective treatment of dysphagia.

(SEMG) Surface electromyography is a non-invasive technique used to evaluate and treat communication and swallowing disorders through the use of physiological data acquisition and biofeedback.

(FEES) Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing is a technique used to evaluate swallowing difficulties by using an endoscope to view laryngeal and pharyngeal structures during both swallowing and non-swallowing tasks.

(MBSS) Modified Barium Swallow Studies are conducted in conjunction with radiology to evaluate swallowing.  It is a fluoroscopic x-ray that allows for the viewing of the oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal stages of the swallow.

Visi Pitch is state of the art software used to record the voice and provide visual and auditory feedback for adults and children.

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD) is considered the standard treatment for speech and voice disorders resulting from Parkinson’s disease.

PROMPT (Reconstructing Oral Musculature Phonetic Targets) therapy uses touch cues to the patient’s jaw, tongue, and lips to guide them through a targeted word, phrase or sentence.

AAC (Augmentative/Alternative Communication) devices such as Dynavox and Lingraphica etc are available to trial during an evaluation.
