History

St. Joseph Hospital, located at 4295 Hempstead Turnpike, Bethpage, New York 11714, is a community hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, critical care and surgical services.  St. Joseph Hospital is proud to hold The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval, signifying full accreditation by the nation’s predominant standards-setting body in health care. Amongst many quality achievements, St. Joseph is also recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for GOLD quality achievements for both Stroke and AFIB.  In fact, St. Joseph is the first hospital on Long Island to earn the AFIB GOLD Quality Achievement Award.  

St. Joseph’s Emergency Department, a designated Stroke Center, cares for approximately 33,000 patients a year providing a full spectrum of care for emergency conditions including respiratory problems, orthopedic injuries, appendicitis, gastrointestinal disorders, infectious disease, strokes and cardiac.   In 2016, St. Francis Imaging Services at St. Joseph Hospital opened its doors.  A state-of-the art cardiac CT scanner now provides revolutionary ways to look at the heart and pinpoint disease long before symptoms start.  Physicians have the ability to provide rapid and accurate diagnoses of heart disease and strokes.

Our inpatient units provide a comprehensive range of medical specialists who provide care in internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, critical care, kidney disease, neurology, hematology and oncology. Surgical specialists offer surgery for breast disease, breast cancer, gallstones, hernia repairs, plastic and reconstructive surgery, urologic surgery, ENT surgery, surgery for gastrointestinal diseases and cancer, surgical oncology and spine surgery. Orthopedic surgery for fractures, sports injuries and joint replacements are also performed. Surgery and endoscopy are available on an inpatient basis or through the Ambulatory Surgical Service.

Other vital services include an Ambulatory Surgery Unit, The Center for Sleep Medicine, Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center, The Center for Speech and Swallowing Disorders, a Diabetes Education Center, and a full scope of outpatient radiology services, including an MRI, nuclear camera and vascular laboratory.  Opened in 2017, CHS Cancer Center, a six-chair infusion unit provides patients who require intravenous therapy, a comfortable and controlled environment close to home.

St. Joseph Hospital became a member of Catholic Health Services (CHS) of Long Island in early 2010. CHS is an integrated health care delivery system which includes six hospitals, three skilled nursing facilities, a regional home health agency, hospice and a multiservice, community-based agency for persons with special needs. Under the sponsorship of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, CHS serves hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders each year, providing care that extends from the beginning of life to helping people live their final years in comfort, grace and dignity.
