Cardiovascular Computed Tomography

Read Anthony's story here

Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (CVCT) is one of the most rapidly developing techniques for assessing Cardiovascular Anatomy.  The complex nature of the imaging devices and anatomy as well as the rapidly advancing uses of these modalities requires the Cardiologist invest many hours on training, education and experience to obtain and master the skills necessary to become an expert in this new and evolving discipline.  Doctors Lev Lubarsky and Sal Trazzera are leading this program at St Joseph Hospital.

Dr. Lubarsky is a cardiovascular imaging specialist and serves as Director, Cardiac CT angiography, Department of Radiology, at St. Charles Hospital and St. Catherine Hospital. Dr. Lubarsky is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology, echocardiolgraphy, and cardiac CT angiography. He is a Fellow with the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (FSCCT) and is one of only a handful of cardiologists on Long Island to hold Level III certification in cardiac CT angiography from the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. Dr. Lubarsky brings his expertise to St. Joseph Hospital and has been involved with Cardiac CT for over 10 years.

Dr. Trazzera, a Member of the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, is recognized as an expert in this field.  He has obtained training in Vascular Imaging with CT and has obtained Level III Training in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography under the mentorship of Dr. Micheal Poon, a world renowned leader in the field of Cardiovascular CT at Stony Brook University Medical Center.  Dr. Trazzera is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and is one of only a handful of Cardiologist’s in the region who is Board Certified in CVCT (CBCCT) and a Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (FSCCT).

Under the leadership of Salvatore Trazzera, MD, and Lev Lubarsky, MD, and in partnership with St. Francis Hospital, The Heart Center®, St. Joseph Hospital recently added cardiovascular computed tomography (CT) services adjacent to its Emergency Department (ED).  Cardiac CT, the most advanced noninvasive imaging tool in cardiology, is now being performed both electively on ambulatory patients as well as urgently on appropriate acute chest pain patients in the ED.  In cooperation with the ED, and in conjunction with the Clinical Decision Unit, acute chest pain patients not requiring urgent transfer for coronary angiography can be safely imaged, potentially excluding or diagnosing coronary artery disease in a timely fashion.

The hospital’s new cardiac CT scanner brings cutting-edge technology and expertise to St. Joseph Hospital and its surrounding communities.
