St. Joseph Kicks Off Breast Cancer Awareness On PINKtember 18
Today is officially PINKtember 18th at St. Joseph Hospital, the kick off to Breast Cancer Awareness month, which was celebrated with a variety of activities that included fun, food and facts!
The hospital welcomed Making Strides of Long Island and Kannoli Kings, who helped fundraise for the Oct. 20th Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach and encouraged all to sign up for the Catholic Health Services/St. Joseph team. The Radiology Department also participated in the fundraising efforts by selling pins and baked goods.
Dr. David I. Kaufman, director of the Breast Health Center and chief of breast surgery at St. Joseph Hospital, and his patient Lauren LoMonaco spoke to about 100 people during a lunch & learn about the importance of early detection. Lauren, 31, who tested positive for the BRCA gene, was diagnosed at Stage 0 when she was 24 years old. Lauren credits early detection for saving her life. You can hear more about Lauren’s story on Catholic Faith Network on September 27th at 10:30 a.m.
The icing on the cake… many of our staff wore pink!
